When Financial Statements in Divorce are Fraudulent, Misleading or Incomplete

In a vast number of divorce cases in Massachusetts, one party provides a financial statement to the other party and the Probate & Family Court that is misleading, incomplete, or downright fraudulent.

Financial statements are required by every party in every divorce case in Massachusetts, whether in Bristol County, Plymouth County, Boston (Suffolk), Middlesex or Norfolk County.  A party’s financial statement is crucial to establish the framework for an agreement between parties in mediation or settlement negotiations, establish child support, enter alimony agreements or court orders, and for the division of marital property.
