Parenting Classes Required in Divorce and Custody Cases

CHILD CUSTODY CASES AND PARENTING CLASSES IN MASSACHUSETTS

When child custody is at issue in a Massachusetts family law proceeding, which occurs in divorce, custody, separate support, and parentage cases, parents must participate in parental education programs.

The requirement for these parenting courses is Standing Order 3-23. The theory behind the requirement of these parenting courses is not to punish the child’s parents; the purpose is to educate the parents on how to co-parent the child and look after the child’s best interests rather than the parent’s own personal needs.
